Program – Wisconsin PSA Club Showcase Image Selection

At our August meeting, members will select our club’s entries for the 2017 PSA Wisconsin Club Showcase.  This is an annual competition between all camera clubs in Wisconsin.  Each club submits seven images.  The images from all clubs are then judged by each club with the cumulative scores determining the top clubs.  Last year our club finished in 3rd place, missing 2nd by a slim margin!

Each member is strongly encouraged to submit one of his or her best images!  Images may be of any subject.  Digital enhancement is allowed.  Images should be in a JPEG format, less than 1MB file size, a maximum of 1024 W x 768 H, 100 PPI.  Please size your images accordingly, but if you are uncertain how to do this, do not let this stop you.  Send your image in and if it is selected we will get it resized for you.  The important thing is we want your best image!  Images should be sent as soon as possible, but no later that Tuesday, August 1st, to Rick at Rvollb@wi.rr.com .

After we have selected our entries, we will use member images for a discussion of what makes a good image. This will be an opportunity to see some of the best images from our club members.

Member Image Sharing:

Members are encouraged to submit several (up to five) images to share with the club for gentle critique.  This is a great way to get suggestions for improving your images and developing your photographic skills.  In order to give everyone a chance to share their images during the year, we will select several individuals who will be featured at each meeting.  Other individuals may also provide images which will be shared as time permits.

The following members will be featured this month: Jill Arth, Mark Blackman, Deb Bloede, Craig Brown, Dick Clark.  Also, if you have some images from the July wildflower shoot, please feel free to share those too.

Please email your images to Rick Vollbrecht (Rvollb@wi.rr.com) by Tuesday, August 1st. This will help to streamline the process of viewing member images. We look forward to seeing your images.

Photo Scavenger Hunt:

Our Photo Scavenger Hunt has become a popular annual event which we will be doing again this year.  Photo scavenger hunts are a fun and challenging way to get your imagination and creative juices flowing! The rules are simple:
1.    Capture one image of each topic.
2.    Be creative - think of a unique way to express the topic.
3.    Images should be taken in 2017.
Your scavenger hunt images will be shown at our Holiday Party in December.
The topics for our 2017 Scavenger Hunt are:
1.    Fun
2.    Patina
3.    Detail
4.    Liquid
5.    Dew
6.    Fungi
7.    Feather
8.    Creature
9.    Motion
10.  Soft

Field Trips:

Photo field trips are a great way for us to share our common enjoyment of photography, learn some new techniques and share in camaraderie while getting to know our fellow club members.  Our Outings Chairperson, Randy Scherkenbach, will be organizing more outing for 2017.  If you have some ideas of where you would like to see us go, please let Randy know.  Better yet, why not offer to coordinate a field trip.  It's not hard - find a place you would like to go, pick a date and we can announce it to the club.

Tentative 2017 Field Trips:
July 26th – Downtown Milwaukee at night
August 18th -19th – Manitowoc County – Farms, barns, old cars, night sky.

Future Events of Interest:

If you are aware of any events of general interest, please let us know so we can share them with the club.

August 21st, 2017 – Total Solar Eclipse.  On Monday, August 21st we will be treated to a rare total eclipse of the sun.  While it will be partially visible in our area, to see the total eclipse you will need to travel to places like St Louis, MO, Paducah, KY, or southern Illinois.  It should be worth the trip!

If you are aware of any photo contests, please forward the information to Rick Vollbrecht at Rvollb@wi.rr.com

UW – Waukesha Field Station – Deadline September 1st, 2017  The UW-Waukesha Field station is hosting a photo contest to celebrate their 50th Anniversary.  All images must be taken at the UW-Waukesha Field Station.  Categories include People, Buildings, Plants, Scenery and Wildlife.  For more information and an entry form go to:  www.http://waukesha.uwc.edu/campus/resources/facilities/field-station.

Photo Ops:
As a club, our members have a wide variety of subjects that we enjoy photographing.  This newsletter can serve as an excellent way to share various photo opportunities with club members.  If you know of interesting subjects or events that may interest other club members, please forward those to Rick Vollbrecht so they can be included in future newsletters.  If you are interested in having others join you, that information can also be included.  It is fun to shoot with a group.
