November Meeting  Wednesday, November 1st, 2017, 7:00 PM

Program  Katja Wright – Portrait Photography

Katja Wright will talk to us about creating good portraits.  She founded Imprints Photography in 2012.  Her focus is on seniors, newborns, and family photography.  She lives with her husband and three children in New Berlin so she is often out in the area doing photo shoots.  This will be an opportunity to get some tips to improve the pictures you take of family and friends.

Member Image Sharing:

Members are encouraged to submit several (up to five) images to share with the club for gentle critique.  This is a great way to get suggestions for improving your images and developing your photographic skills. In order to give everyone a chance to share their images during the year, we will select several individuals who will be featured at each meeting.  Other individuals may also provide images which will be shared as time permits.

The following members will be featured this month: Mike Gray, John Hasse, Rick Heinze, Bob Hempeck, JoAnn Hempeck,

Please email your images to Rick Vollbrecht (Rvollb@wi.rr.com) by Tuesday, October 31st. This will help to streamline the process of viewing member images. We look forward to seeing your images.

Photo Scavenger Hunt:

Our Photo Scavenger Hunt has become a popular annual event which we will be doing again this year.  Photo scavenger hunts are a fun and challenging way to get your imagination and creative juices flowing!

We will be viewing our Photo Scavenger Hunt images at our December Holiday Party.  Start checking to make sure you have all the images and think about getting those you are still missing.

The rules are simple:
1. Capture one image of each topic.
2. Be creative - think of a unique way to express the topic.
3. Images should be taken in 2017.
Your scavenger hunt images will be shown at our Holiday Party in December.
The topics for our 2017 Scavenger Hunt are:
1. Fun
2. Patina
3. Detail
4. Liquid
5. Dew
6. Fungi
7. Feather
8. Creature
9. Motion
10. Soft

Field Trips:

Photo field trips are a great way for us to share our common enjoyment of photography, learn some new techniques and share in camaraderie while getting to know our fellow club members. We have no additional field trips planned for this year.  If you have any ideas of places you would like to have us shoot, please send your ideas to our Outings Chairperson, Randy Scherkenbach.  Better yet, why not offer to coordinate a field trip.  It's not hard - find a place you would like to go, pick a date and we can announce it to the club.  Perhaps you have a favorite place for fall colors or winter scenery.

Future Events of Interest:

If you are aware of any events of general interest, please let us know so we can share them with the club.

The Chicago Area Photographic School – Saturday / Sunday November 18-19, 2017:  This two-day photography school features a variety of speakers covering subjects including landscape, macro, architecture, winter and bird photography, portrait lighting, camera features, Photoshop and Lightroom and many other subjects.  For more information, go to http://caps.caccaweb.com.

WACCO Presents a Photography Seminar by Roman Kurywczak - Saturday, March 3rd:
The seminar will be held at the Country Springs Hotel in Pewaukee from 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM.  Roman will cover topics including night photography, wildlife portraits and action, macro photography and landscapes.  At $45.00 (including lunch), this is a bargain.
There will also be a macro workshop on Sunday, March 4th, 10:00 AM – Noon.  The cost for the workshop is $30.00.

Photo Contests and Exhibits:

6th Annual WACCO Exhibit - October 14 – December 2, 2017:  The 2017 WACCO Exhibit is now on display at The Blue, 310 Wisconsin Avenue, Milwaukee.  The building is open to the public on weekdays.  On weekends, the lobby doors are locked, but access is available via the mezzanine level and the Grand Avenue skywalk.  Over 50 images from Wisconsin photographers are on display.

Wisconsin Print Circuit:  Entry deadline - Wednesday, November 1, 2017.  Members may submit one color and one monochrome print.  Prints are to be unmounted and no larger than 8 ½ x 12 and no smaller than    8 ½ x 8 ½.  More specific instructions have previously been sent to all members and are also attached to the email of this Newsletter.  Prints must be given to Elizabeth Whitcomb no later than our November 1st meeting.  Prints are judged by all WACCO member clubs during the early part of 2018 with the results reported in May.  This is an easy competition to enter.  We would like to see great participation by our club members.

WACCO Fall 2017 Competition - Saturday, November 4, 2017: The entry deadline has passed, but there is still an opportunity to watch the judging.  Judging will take place on Saturday, November 4th at the Waukesha State Bank in Oconomowoc (lower level), starting at about 11:30.  The bank is located at 1227 Corporate Center Drive, Oconomowoc (Hwy 67 north of I-94).  This is a great opportunity to see some great images and see how they are judged.  If you have entered images, it also lets you see how your images compare to the other entries.  There are always several our club members present, so please join us.

If you are aware of any photo contests or exhibits, please forward the information to Rick Vollbrecht at Rvollb@wi.rr.com

Photo Ops:
As a club, our members have a wide variety of subjects that we enjoy photographing.  This newsletter can serve as an excellent way to share various photo opportunities with club members.  If you know of interesting subjects or events that may interest other club members, please forward those to Rick Vollbrecht so they can be included in future newsletters.  If you are interested in having others join you, that information can also be included.  It is fun to shoot with a group.

Photography Classes:

A variety of non-credit, reasonably priced classes on photography and Photoshop are available at Waukesha County Technical College (WCTC) and UW Waukesha.  The new UW Waukesha catalog is now available.  Check their web sites for more information.
